SELF-RELIANCE

Definition: “Reliance on one’s own powers and resources rather than those of others.”

  • There will be LIGHT FLAGGING on the 100, 80 & 50-mile course. 
  • There will be special event and warning signage on course in specific locations for area traffic and riders of The Spirit World 100. 
  • Every rider is responsible for uploading the Spirit World 100, 80, or 50-mile course onto their personal GPS unit. You will need the route you’ve chosen to guide you throughout your vision quest. 
    • NOTE: Please make sure you understand how to use your GPS computer before your adventure begins.
  • Every rider must carry the appropriate repair tools needed for their bike during The Spirit World 100, 80, or 50-mile race. 
  • There will be aid stations on course offering SOME food, water, emergency repair tools/items and medical supplies. You must have everything you need between each aid station. 
  • There will be medical personnel out on course. This is for every riders safety and The Spirit World 100 organization will call on them in case of an emergency. 
    • first call of action in case of emergency: dial 911 - this will place patagonia fire & sonoita elgin fire stations into effect. 
    • second call of action: make sure you are ok, then help someone else. 
    • third call to action: choose a bold landmark to let patagonia & sonoita fire understand where you are.
    • find some shade, hydrate + help your fellow riders in need if you pass by an accident! thank you.
  • Every rider must carry a cell phone throughout the entire ride. In case of emergency or bike failure: you will utilize the 'safety protocol' with phone numbers to call when you run into any trouble.
    • T-Mobile has zero coverage in the San Rafael Valley.
    • Verizon has great coverage in the San Rafael Valley 
  • The Spirit World 100 organization asks that you refrain from using headphones during this event. 
  • The roads will NOT be closed to outside traffic! Keep your head up and ride respectfully beside traffic and other riders at all times.
  • Obey all road traffic laws 100% of the time.
  • The Spirit World 100 is requiring all riders to wear a helmet. If you’re found without one, you will be disqualified from this event. 
  • You must obey the Leave No Trace Principles.
  • No spectators or support on course. 
  • You are responsible for carrying enough food and water for your ride adventure between aid stations. 
  • If you are caught getting support from outside of the designated aid stations, you will be disqualified. 
  • The Spirit World 100, 80 or 50-mile course must be followed at all times. 
  • You must ride the same bicycle from the start to the finish of The Spirit World 100 or 50-mile course.
  • You must have a 100% functional bike to ride during your ride adventure in the Spirit World. 35c - 40c tires with a thick/durable  sidewall are HIGHLY recommended.
  • You must finish The Spirit World 100, 80, or 50-mile course before 5:00PM on November 5th, 2022. 
  • Each rider has 10 hours to finish their journey. ​
